Council approves consent agenda permits; solid-waste contract negotiations continue

Items approved included: minutes of the March 27, 2025 regular meeting; a request by First Baptist Church to close the 500 block of Cherry Street June 8–12 and again on Oct. 26 for trunk-or-treat; and exclusive use of Fireman’s Park on April 25 for the Remembering White Dale organization’s eleventh annual event. Councilmember Shannon moved approval; Councilmember Brent seconded and the motion passed by voice vote.
On a separate agenda item, city staff reported negotiations over a new solid-waste contract remain underway. The city manager said attorneys for the city and the vendor were working through compromise language and that the projected service changeover remains September 1, 2025, but final details and an executed contract must be in place before the transition can be finalized. Staff said they would continue to provide updates at subsequent meetings as negotiations progress.
No changes to service or a final contract were approved during the meeting.
