City speakers said the amendments mainly align charter language with current state law and the citys council-manager form of government, and one technical timing change about the proposed budget was adjusted to conform with state law.
A city attorney summary and council comments noted the purpose of the review was to reduce confusion for citizens by making charter language consistent with state law and municipal practice. Councilors also encouraged residents with questions to contact city hall for clarification before the May election.
Council members moved and seconded the ordinance on second reading; the motion carried by voice vote.
No substantive ordinance text changes were introduced at the Jan. 20 meeting; staff said the city secretary was working on required publications and translations ahead of the election.
