City recognizes utility crew for infant rescue, honors retiring fire inspector Wayne Scrimshaw

Fire Chief Dale Skinner described the incident: crew leader Jimmy Herrera and three crew members ran to assist after hearing a woman’s screams, performed back blows and cleared an airway. Chief Skinner said the crew “truly saved this little girl's life” and noted the certificate recognizes their actions. The four crew members named during the presentation were Jimmy Herrera, Steven Eldridge, Kev Moore and Nathan Theory (as read in the meeting).
The council also recognized Wayne Scrimshaw on the occasion of his retirement. City manager Steve Parker recounted Scrimshaw’s employment timeline with the city, noting he began as a part-time firefighter/EMT in 2002, returned to the department in 2010, moved to full-time in 2012, and later served in fire inspection roles. Parker said Scrimshaw will retire on Jan. 30, 2025, after 14 years and four months of service (city service time as stated in the presentation).
