Seguin Police Department receives TPCA reaccreditation; chief praises staff work

Todd Smith, chief of police for the Fair Oaks Ranch Police Department and a representative of the Texas Police Chiefs Association accreditation committee, presented a certificate of reaccreditation to the Seguin Police Department, citing the agency's compliance with Texas law enforcement best practices.

Smith told the council the TPCA program is voluntary and based on Texas law, court decisions and contemporary best practices. "The agency had to conduct a complete audit of all of its policies, procedures, and operations," he said, noting assessors spent two days interviewing staff and inspecting facilities before a unanimous accreditation-committee vote.

Chief Brady, Seguin police chief, said the reaccreditation was the result of sustained work by departmental staff and recognized specific personnel who led the documentation and proofs required by assessors. Brady named Lieutenant Mike McCann, Stacy Sanchez, Aaron Seidenberger and other administrative and operations staff in thanking the department team.

Smith said only a minority of Texas law enforcement agencies hold accredited status and called the Seguin department "one of the very best in this state." Brady added the department will continue to submit annual reports and will undergo another on-site inspection in four years as required by the program.

The council acknowledged the presentation but took no formal action related to staffing or budgeting during the meeting.
