Tompkins County Government Operations Committee members voted unanimously on April 3 to provisionally approve an amendment permitting the Tompkins County Public Library (TCPL) board to increase its membership from 12 to a number between 13 and 15, to be chosen by the TCPL board and forwarded to the full Legislature for final approval.
The committee’s action was intended to speed appointments: TCPL received 25 applications and legislators said they wanted flexibility to appoint additional trustees without delaying the process. "We're saying this is what we would like the board to do," the committee chair said before the vote. Rich John moved the measure and Greg Mezi seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
