JEDI subgroup explores staff training options as county prepares updated DEI policy

The JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) subgroup told the Workforce Diversity and Inclusion Committee that it is continuing a marketing campaign and is exploring training models for county employees.
Rachel, speaking for JEDI, said the group has filmed interviews and produced two video segments, with a third in development, and is discussing training that could help departments meet equity-indicator data needs. “We’re really trying to figure out how to reach the most people,” Rachel said, describing options that include department-specific sessions or countywide summits and noting concerns about venue capacity and cultural differences across departments.
Charlene Holmes told the committee there is a pending updated DEI policy in the administrative queue that will be submitted for review in the coming weeks and is aligned with the county’s institutionalizing equity report. Holmes said the policy will be shared with GEO (the county’s Governmental Equity Office or equivalent public review body) and likely with WDIC as it moves through the review process.
No formal training program or policy was adopted at the March 26 meeting; JEDI’s work remains at the planning stage and Holmes said staff will provide policy documents to committees for review when the submission is formalized.
