Commission approves IT and cybersecurity contract extensions and names municipal advisor; several motions pass unanimously

Several consent and ordinance items moved quickly during the Jan. 30 Plaquemines Port Harbor and Terminal District meeting; commissioners unanimously approved contract extensions for information technology and cybersecurity services that include newly added minimum payment levels and approved a municipal advisor contract.
IT and cybersecurity extensions Commissioners approved an ordinance authorizing the executive director to execute a one-year extension of professional services with Veil IT to provide information-technology services. The ordinance was amended during the meeting to add this language: "And the total cost of the IT services shall be a minimum of $88,668 payable in equal monthly installments of $7,389 at a minimum." The commission recorded the vote on the amended ordinance as 8-0 on second reading and final passage.
A separate ordinance extending professional services with Eval IQ for cybersecurity services was similarly amended to add: "And the total of the cybersecurity services shall be a minimum of $82,980 payable in equal monthly installments of $6,915 at a minimum." Commissioners approved that amendment and the ordinance on a roll call of 8-0.
Commissioners and staff noted the amendments raise annual obligations above the executive director's current budgetary authority; both measures were seconded on the floor and carried unanimously.
Municipal advisor appointment Under new business the commission moved to enter into an agreement with Argent Advisors Inc. to serve as municipal advisors to the district. The suspension of rules for immediate consideration passed 8-0, followed by the resolution to enter the agreement, which also passed 8-0. Lucius McGee of Argent Advisors introduced himself and said his role would be to advise on negotiation and the prudence of borrowing.
