Ulster County committee defeats measure to change rules for scheduling meetings

The Ulster County Legislature’s committee considered and defeated Resolution No. 80, a proposed amendment to the rules of order that would change how legislative committee meetings are scheduled and rescheduled.
Introduced in February by Legislator Lopez, the measure was postponed several times before coming to the committee. Committee members discussed the proposal and reported that the sponsor had communication issues with the committee; the majority leader said he had spoken to Lopez but had not received a response. Several members emphasized the importance of chair and deputy chair cooperation under the proposal’s intent.
After a motion to adopt and a second, the committee held a vote and recorded the resolution as defeated. No amendments were adopted to the proposal during the session.
Committee members debated whether to hold an up-or-down vote to clear the agenda; ultimately the measure did not pass.
