On April 1, 2025, the committee approved a contract amendment that exercises the first of two one-year extensions with Flint Media to provide graphic design, photography, editorial layout and advertising sales for the 2025–2026 Ulster County travel guide through June 30, 2026.
Committee staff said the county receives I LOVE NY matching funds for the travel guide; the state award listed in committee remarks was $59,088 and the county must provide a matching contribution to use those funds. Staff also said Flint Media sells advertising in the guide, and historically the advertising revenue has covered most of production costs so the county’s net payment has been substantially reduced.
Committee members asked about content decisions, the tradeoffs between county-produced material and local publishers, and accessibility-focused itineraries being developed for the guide. The motion to approve the contract amendment was moved and seconded; the committee voted “Aye.”
County staff said they will work with Flint Media on content priorities, including itineraries that highlight “hidden gems,” family travel, and accessibility options for visitors with mobility limitations. The tourism department will continue to monitor ad sales and state-matching requirements for publication.
