EDC reports steady business inquiries, Angio retention, rising marina employment and broadband efforts

John, representing the county’s economic development team, reported that Warren County has seen steady economic activity with three to five net new business inquiries each month and that the county has not had a month in the last year without net growth in business activity.
John described efforts to retain operations at a local medical device company, Angio. He said county representatives met privately with Angio after public announcements that the company had considered leaving, and that those discussions helped the company “retool” its business case and retain roughly half of its previous local footprint. John said the retained portion will be smaller but more sustainable, with an estimated local payroll under $10 million and an overall conservatively modeled economic impact of roughly $18 million to the county.
John also highlighted a CEG study pointing to rapid growth in the marine sector in the Capital District, with marina employment up about 30% in the period cited; county staff said more than 300 local marina positions were identified and that roughly 90% of those jobs are in Warren County. He noted that marina jobs are often seasonal and rely on local workers familiar with lake operations.
On broadband, county staff described ongoing efforts to encourage competition among private carriers, noting federal funding programs have not always produced expected deployment and are under scrutiny. Staff said the county is working with carriers and potential technologies — including a possible larger role for satellite services where appropriate — to extend service to underserved pockets and to create competitive offerings for already-served areas.
John said the EDC will share a scorecard and additional materials at a future meeting and continue to work with planning staff to package DRI and other projects that lever state investment into local leverage.
