The Davenport City Design Review Board approved a facade refurbishment at 114 West Third Street, submitted by R3 Roofing and Exteriors, that retains the existing lower red brick while painting upper floors in a sample referred to as “rugged brown.” The board approved the applicant’s submitted work write-up and materials.
Staff displayed site maps, photos, and color samples. The project scope included demolition of existing basement storefront cladding, elimination of an infill doorway, refacing a structural wall to match the adjacent building’s brick, installation of red brick pillars at the side, and replacement of storefront glass with matching units. The applicant indicated the lower brick would remain as brick while the existing upper gray cladding would be repainted in rugged brown and additional architectural trim elements would be installed in white.
The applicant described plans to replace temporary aluminum display windows with brick backing and to bring new coin corners and ledges into the display window openings. Staff noted additional tuckpointing and masonry repairs are needed; the applicant said they plan to return with any subsequent color approvals for the neighboring R3 area after those repairs are complete.
The board voted to accept the staff recommendation and the submitted materials as presented. Staff will retain the approved color sample on file and the applicant will follow up with staff regarding additional color approvals after masonry repairs are finished.
Permits for demolition, masonry work and storefront changes remain required; the design approval does not waive other building or safety reviews.
