Zoning board approves 155-foot Verizon tower at 7805 Jersey Ridge Road

The Davenport City Zoning Board of Adjustment on March 13 approved Special Use SU25-02, allowing a proposed 155-foot wireless tower at 7805 Jersey Ridge Road.
Staff told the board the site is zoned AG (agricultural) and that Table 17.08-1 and Section 17.08.003.F.F of the Davenport Municipal Code require a special use for a non-stealth wireless tower. Scott Cokes, Development and Neighborhood Services, said staff found the tower’s design and location appropriate and recommended approval.
Scott Garcia, representing Vertical Bridge and Verizon Wireless, told the board Verizon searched the area for existing structures and found none adequate, so the company is proposing a new tower sized to accommodate two additional carriers. "It will definitely help the area," Garcia said, adding the tower will serve the casino, John Deere, the Chevrolet dealership and businesses south of the site. Garcia said the tower lease area is a 100-by-100-foot pad with an access easement and that utilities will be underground.
Board members asked about site access, construction details and lighting. Garcia and staff said the proposal includes pavement to the leased pad, landscaping and a fenced equipment area; the project will proceed through the city’s normal engineering review before construction. Garcia said the applicant received an FAA obstruction clearance letter and that a light on top of the tower is not required at the proposed height.
No members of the public spoke for or against the request during the public comment period. After brief discussion the board moved to approve SU25-02. The roll call recorded affirmative votes from Mike Galliert, Bridget Boyd Carlson, Kristen Crawford and Chairman Dan Darlan.
The approval allows the applicant to proceed to the city’s engineering and permitting reviews; final construction permits and any required federal clearances remain outstanding.
