Council advances two ordinances on motorcycles and micro-mobility devices to second consideration

The Davenport City Council on March 12 gave first consideration to two separate ordinances affecting sidewalks and trails.
The first ordinance would amend chapter 10.68 of the municipal code to add definitions and restrictions on the use of motorcycles and motorized bicycles on public sidewalks. The council asked for public comment and none was offered; the motion to move the ordinance to second consideration passed on a 10–0 roll call.
The second ordinance would amend chapter 10.84, changing the title from “bicycles” to “bicycles and motorized micro mobility devices,” adding definitions, rules for riding on multiuse paths and trails, and specific regulations for electric bicycles (e-bikes) on public sidewalks. Again, no members of the public spoke during the solicitation for comment; the measure also advanced to second consideration by unanimous roll call.
Both items were presented as first readings and will return to the council for further debate and final votes at second consideration, when more detailed ordinance language, definitions and exceptions will be debated and recorded in the official ordinance text.
