The Shoreline School Board on March 18 unanimously adopted a resolution accepting the district’s 2024–2025 Study and Survey Report, a statutorily required facility assessment prepared by NAC Architects. The study rates newer campuses as generally meeting current educational specifications, identifies aging HVAC and infrastructure issues in older buildings, and recommends long‑range planning that could include replacement of two elementary schools over the next six years.
Assistant Superintendent Angela Von Essen told the board the study was required by OSPI and conducted between December 2023 and January 2025. “This study and survey is also required by OSPI state statute for us to qualify for state assistance for construction, and they are required to be done every 6 years,” she said.
What the study found
NAC’s building condition assessment rated campuses and support facilities on a standard four‑point scale (excellent, good, fair, poor). Key findings presented to the board included:
- Newer schools: recent construction projects scored as “good” or “excellent” and meet modern instructional needs and infrastructure standards. - Older schools and support facilities: many older elementary buildings and district support structures were rated in the “fair” range and show deficiencies in HVAC, acoustics, and space for small‑group interventions. - Capacity and matching: NAC and district staff estimated OSPI eligibility of about $33 million for…
