Council issues proclamations for National Library Week and Fair Housing Month; A Home for Everyone award presented

The council also proclaimed April as Fair Housing Month for Ames and Story County, citing the U.S. Fair Housing Act of April 11, 1968, and identifying local partners (Ames Human Relations Commission, Central Iowa Board of Realtors, Story County) that will host a film screening and panel discussion on April 24 addressing redlining and housing discrimination.
Annabella Marquez, vice chair of the Ames Human Relations Commission, presented the 2025 A Home for Everyone award to Kathy Pinkerton, service center administrator for the Salvation Army of Ames, recognizing her work providing rent and utility assistance, emergency shelter funding and participation in the homelessness outreach support team. Pinkerton said she has been a social worker for more than 30 years and expressed appreciation for the award.
