Superintendent Allison gave the committee a multi‑part update covering personnel, budget, technology and capital work.
On staffing, Allison said the district named two finalists for director of student services: Meg Garvey, identified as a Westborough candidate, and Jeffrey Lapin of Sudbury. The finalists will do site visits with an opportunity for parents and caregivers to meet them during morning coffee sessions at a Westborough school; the visits include meetings with building coordinators, district staff and a faculty Zoom forum. Allison said the assistant superintendent posting closes Sunday, the 30th, and the district expects interviews and a hiring decision by April vacation if the timeline holds.
On assessment and partnerships, Allison said ELL director Leticia Broomfield established a collaborative professional‑development exchange with Braintree’s EL department; teachers from Braintree visited Westborough High School to observe programs and plan joint PD work.
Allison said John Green will present a more detailed technology update at the next meeting. The presentation will include device deployment, student data protections, safeguards against inappropriate content and observed impacts of classroom technology.
On budget and finance, Allison said the district is finalizing operating budget books and monitoring preschool and kindergarten enrollment to determine whether restored funds could cover some of this year’s reductions. The district will also move to a Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)‑aligned chart of accounts to improve comparability with other districts.
On capital projects, Allison said the district is preparing a bid for Mill Pond chiller design work; a bid for Gibbons floor work is already in hand. She said summer will be used to schedule floor and paving work to minimize program disruption. The committee discussed creating a prioritized timeline for HVAC work that town meeting supported.
Committee business included a list of subcommittee assignments the chair read into the record and a number of committee members volunteering for targeted follow‑up on site issues such as bus drop‑off at Hastings and remaining Armstrong air‑conditioning work.
