Dr. Cindy Hansen appeared before the Sioux City Council to request reappointment to the Civil Service Commission beyond the normal two‑term limit so she can continue to mentor newer commissioners.
Hansen said she has experience she believes provides value to the commission and asked the council to make an exception to the usual term limit so she can pass knowledge to newer members. “I have some background that, I believe provides value to that commission,” she said.
Hansen also raised concerns about a previous council decision to suspend civil‑service hiring lists for certain departments. She said the suspension leaves unresolved questions about the rights of applicants: when there is no approved list there is no formal appeal process for someone not selected. “When there is no approved list there’s no appeal process for someone who is not selected, and so that concern remains,” she told the council.
Hansen said she will continue to uphold council decisions in her role on the commission but asked the council to consider the effects of suspended procedures on transparency and individual rights.
There was no recorded council vote on Hansen’s request during the meeting.
