The Cedar Rapids City Council approved plans, specifications and an estimated $245,000 cost for replacement playground equipment at Fox Trail Park.
Steve Krug of Parks and Recreation said the project will replace two aging play structures damaged by high water and general wear, install a 2–5 year age structure, a 5–12 year structure, and standalone play elements, and raise the playground elevation to reduce future flood damage. “The existing playground will be moved and the elevation of the playground area will be raised to prevent future high water issues,” Krug said. Bids were scheduled to be due April 9.
Council member Hager asked staff to confirm accessibility; Krug said accessibility is included in all playground projects. Council members praised community partnerships that had helped fund prior park projects and noted the city maintains a ranked replacement list used to place parks on the capital improvements plan.
Following a public hearing with no objections, council adopted the resolution to proceed with bidding and award once procurement is complete.
