Cedar Rapids City Council on April 8 approved the proposed plans and specifications for a Water Pollution Control (WPC) feeder main extension project, which city utilities staff said will extend roughly 10,000 feet of water main along Bertram Road to provide a secondary feed to future WPC expansions and added fire protection.
Brandon Jennings of Utilities said the project will extend along Bertram Road from Mount Vernon Road Southeast and has an engineer’s opinion of probable construction cost of $3,450,000. “This WPC feeder main extension project will extend approximately 10,000 feet of new water main along Bertram Road … to support future water demands and provide sufficient fire protection to the site,” Jennings said. Bids are scheduled to open April 23; construction is slated to begin in July 2025 and wrap up in spring 2026.
A public hearing was held with no objections for the record. Council adopted the resolution approving plans and estimated cost by voice vote and directed staff to proceed with bidding and procurement.
