Betsy Elliott, who identified herself as the parent of two Ozark High School students, told the board that the rolling A/B schedule — under which A and B days rotate continuously instead of being set to specific weekdays — would reduce students’ ability to combine classes such as OTC (Ozarks Technical College courses) with high‑school offerings and could force students to choose between programs. She said the change appeared to have arisen from teacher concerns about inconsistent contact with students but that the decision was announced without adequate input from high‑school administrators and counselors.
Elliott told the board the district announced the change two nights before a junior/senior ICAP night and that some vice principals and counselors present at that event said they had not been involved in the decision. She asked the board to include high‑school administrators in discussions and to delay any implementation until the district solicits more input from those affected.
Board members asked clarifying questions and said they would follow up. One board member noted that recent calendar changes — removing Mondays off and adding early‑out Fridays — were meant to address continuity concerns. Administrators said the high school staff had discussed schedule options and had voted in favor of a rolling A/B format because some teachers reported going long stretches without seeing particular classes under the set A/B model. Administrators said they would have the high‑school administration and Mr. Chambers (named in discussion) provide further information to the board.
