District officials present 'The Basics' early‑childhood partnership for community reach

RITENOUR — District administrators briefed the board on plans to adopt and promote The Basics, a community program focused on five research‑based practices for children from birth through age 5.
District staff described the five core principles — maximize love/manage stress, talk/sing/point, count/group/compare, explore through movement and play, and read and discuss stories — and said the district will pursue a “socioecological saturation” approach that places materials and messaging across community touchpoints such as libraries, healthcare providers, childcare centers and faith communities.
Administrators said RITENOUR will work with community partners and county libraries to embed the initiative into existing family‑support services and welcome materials. The presentation included a short overview video provided by the Basics organization and a plan to begin outreach meetings with municipalities, health providers and library staff.
Board members praised the concept and noted overlap with the district’s early‑childhood and parents‑as‑teachers activities. The presentation described next steps as planning meetings this year and early outreach to identified partners.
