RITENOUR — The RITENOUR Board of Education voted to adopt a district AI use plan that lays out permissible and prohibited uses of artificial intelligence, a product approval process and training and communications for staff and families.
The plan designates the director of technology as the district AI coordinator and requires human oversight for classroom uses, guidance on disclosure and citation when AI is used, and direction on student‑data protections consistent with federal laws such as FERPA, officials said. The plan also notes known AI limitations — including hallucinations and bias — and provides detection and follow‑up procedures for suspected academic misuse.
Presenters told the board two K–12‑tailored products (School AI and Curipod) had already been vetted and placed on the district’s approved‑products list; other tools may be submitted for review under an established process. The communications team will publish a web page and provide translated materials, officials said, and professional development is planned for staff and students.
Following discussion about multi‑language accessibility and special‑services access, the board moved and approved the plan on a roll call.
District leaders described the plan as an effort to balance instructional innovation and student protections, with annual training and ongoing vendor vetting slated for implementation.
