The Missoula Board of County Commissioners accepted public comment and postponed a scheduled hearing on a proposed lease for a Frenchtown storage building, moving the matter to May 1 at 2 p.m. in the courthouse FEMA room.
A resident, Greg Bilbrey of 15700 Roman Creek Road, called into the meeting to oppose the project and said increased traffic and visibility from his home would be a problem. "I absolutely, 100% oppose the building of any type of storage units or structures of that type, directly across the street from my house," Bilbrey said, adding concern about young drivers and increased traffic near the high school.
A staff member clarified the hearing had been postponed and that public comment would still be accepted at Tuesday's session because the postponement was finalized only a few days earlier. "Because the postponement didn't happen until a couple days ago, we're still taking public comment, but we won't be discussing this until May 1," the staff member said. The staff member confirmed the rescheduled hearing date and time as May 1 at 2:00 p.m. in the courthouse FEMA-based room.
Earlier in the meeting, the commission's current claims list for March 26 through April 1, 2025, was read into the record with a total of $2,198,756.98.
No decision on the Frenchtown lease was made Tuesday. The county said the postponed hearing will be the occasion for further discussion and formal consideration; the public may present comments at the rescheduled hearing or submit them in advance as directed in the May 1 notice.
