Eureka High athletic fields flooded; district closes south entrance and modifies drop-off

Heavy spring flooding affected the Eureka High School campus this week, the superintendent told the Rockwood Board of Education. Although this week’s crest was lower than a previous event in the fall, water covered the athletic fields south of the school and the district closed the south entrance ramp and instituted a modified drop-off and pickup procedure while water impacted portions of the parking lot.
District staff worked with local police and fire officials and with the city of Eureka to limit disruption to the learning day, the superintendent said. The city allowed the district to use its ball fields for practices while the high school fields remain inaccessible.
District leaders thanked facilities staff, first responders, students, staff and families for cooperating during the response and described the goal of minimizing disruption to the instructional day. No formal actions or emergency declarations were recorded in the meeting transcript; the board’s remarks thanked staff and the city for assistance and praised cooperation.
