District plans $669,000 track resurfacing at three high schools, work scheduled for summer

District staff presented details about a planned track resurfacing program at three high schools and said work will be scheduled during the summer months to avoid student disruption.
"This will be for Hillcrest, Kickapoo, and Glendale High School tracks, and it'll be resurfacing of those tracks. Dollar amount total is $669,000," said Mr. Sean Dilday during the informational presentation. He told the board the work is a capital project funded from the FY25-26 budget and that the district has performed similar projects in prior years.
A trustee asked whether the district owns any eight-lane competition tracks; a staff member replied that Parkview is the only eight-lane competition track owned by the district. Trustees also asked about lane counts at other locations and whether the district leases other facilities for competition.
Board members were reminded the contractor for the project needed to be aligned with district scheduling; one member noted, in jest, that a nominated contractor, Vernon Jones, shares the same last name as the trustee but that there is no relationship.
The item was presented as informational; staff said formal approval and any contract awards would be handled in accordance with district procurement rules and timing to allow work over the summer.
