Activities director reports robotics success, spring coaching hires and summer construction plans

Mitch Dorr, the district activities director, gave the board an update on activities and athletics, reporting that ROCORI’s FIRST robotics team won a section title and earned an invitation to the FIRST World Championship in Texas. Dorr credited coach Jay Femright and Amy Kron (who covered for Femright during an injury) and also reported that the VEX program concluded successfully.
Dorr said spring coaching contracts will be issued the following day, and that most positions are filled. He described planning for summer when parts of the middle school — including the middle school gym, weight room and wrestling room — will be unavailable for construction. Dorr said coaches are coordinating to use alternative facilities and that the district is making contingency plans for camps and practices.
Dorr also described outreach to middle-school parents about activity sign-ups, noted an increase in activity inquiries, and said the district is working to improve its information platform and sign-up process. He reported coach-carnival attendance of more than 525 students and roughly 40–45 booths, and said promotional materials and proofs for upcoming events (such as a Hall of Fame ceremony) are ready and will be published to provide more details about inductees and events.
Board members thanked Dorr and asked for additional detail in publications about Hall of Fame inductees (year, activity/sport, notable achievements). Dorr said he will provide a summary and that ticket sales for the Hall of Fame events were moving quickly.
