Childcare: Multiple participants said childcare is both a workforce-support issue and an economic development issue. County staff described internal pilots (partnerships and small childcare pilots to serve Lane County employees) and said these can inform broader community efforts. Several commissioners urged naming childcare explicitly in objectives so internal workforce supports and community partnerships are both visible.
Civic engagement: Commissioners debated whether the plan should call out civic engagement as a separate goal-level objective or embed engagement across objectives. Some suggested the county clarify whether “civic” refers to policy participation (boards, turnout) or to community outreach related to service delivery.
Next steps: Staff will rework the housing objective wording to emphasize the county’s facilitation role (land use, infrastructure readiness, incentives) and will bring back refined language that links housing initiatives to infrastructure and regional partnership activities. Staff were asked to consider explicit language on childcare pathways in the objectives or activities.
