Stephanie O'Neil, Public Health Modernization Manager for Crook County, told commissioners the health department is marking National Public Health Week with events and outreach designed to gather community feedback and promote well-being.
O'Neil outlined activities that already occurred and those planned: a Chamber Perk event to connect with local businesses, a community partners thank-you breakfast, and a "Warm and Fuzzies" event scheduled for Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. in front of the health department that will feature warm beverages, cookies from Chicky Bellas and a pet adoption in partnership with the Humane Society of the Ochocos. She also said the department will plant wildflowers at Stryker Park to support pollinators and plans to install a mini library built by youth liaisons to encourage literacy and community resource sharing.
O'Neil said the department is using social media and events to solicit feedback to inform an update of the county's Fair Health Access Plan and invited commissioners and community members to participate and share input.
Commissioners thanked staff and noted participation at recent events. O'Neil reiterated the time and location for the "Warm and Fuzzies" event and said the department appreciates community support.
