The State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education on March 12 recognized local recipients of the Community Service Endorsement, a credential awarded to graduating seniors who complete a minimum of 80 hours of community service during grades 9 through 12.
"The Community Service Endorsement is awarded to graduating seniors who complete a minimum of 80 hours of community service during grades 9 through 12," Dr. Ernie Singleton told the board as she introduced honorees from three systems.

Dr. Singleton introduced representatives from the honored systems and asked Dr. Orkia Thomas (Jefferson Parish) and Dr. Melissa Langlois (Saint Tammany Parish Schools) to come forward. Edna Carr’s representative, Royce Hooks, was noted as delayed by traffic and was not present at the time of the introduction. The board offered congratulations to the school systems for the numbers of endorsed graduates.
