The State Controlling Board on April 7 approved a Department of Health request to fund a feasibility study related to renovating meeting space on the first floor of the departments 246 Building.
Representative Stewart asked whether the building is state owned or leased and raised a figure of $51,000 to conduct the study. Lisa Griffin, director of government affairs at the Ohio Department of Health, said she believed the building is state-owned and that she would double-check ownership status. Griffin said the department moved into the first floor of the 246 Building in February 2024 and is considering using space near the entrance for stakeholder meetings, boards and commissions, or employee meeting rooms.
On whether the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC) requires a feasibility study, Griffin said her understanding is that OFCC does require a feasibility study and that OFCC staff are present if the board wished to ask further process-related questions. Representative Stewart expressed concern about the apparent cost of a study for renovation of a conference room and said he wanted confirmation on process requirements.
After brief discussion and Griffins answers, the board approved the item. Griffin indicated the department would confirm building ownership and the OFCC process and provide further detail as needed.
