County treasurer reports near-$1M interest distribution, delinquency rate and March DMV software migration

The treasurer reported the county’s short-term investment pool (STIP) rate was 4.62% in December. Operating-account net interest and pooled-investment distributions for December totaled about $996,005.63, the treasurer said; those distributions are paid to schools, agencies and county funds per standard allocation formulas.
Delinquent real estate taxes stood at about $8,250,000 on $242,000,000 billed, a delinquency rate of roughly 3.41 percent. The treasurer said courtesy notices and further collection steps are scheduled as the tax season moves toward May.
On motor-vehicle services, the treasurer (identified in the record as Adele) summarized training and the transition to a new statewide DMV/motor-vehicle system. The county will close motor-vehicle services for two days in March for the statewide cutover; staff are running training modules (about 80) and preparing scanners and equipment. The treasurer said the new system ‘‘is going to be way, way ahead’’ of the current platform and is expected to reduce processing time and dependence on paper forms. She said credit-card fees are covered by the county’s 3% surcharge and that the treasurer’s office is coordinating a media packet and public notice about the two-day closure.
Commissioners had no immediate questions beyond timing and implementation details; the treasurer said staff would continue training and provide public notice when the media packet is available.
