Carla Dimet, director of the Area Agency on Aging (AOA), reported to the Flathead County commissioners that the AOA provided 8,784 meals in February: 6,175 were home-delivered Meals on Wheels and 2,609 were served at social dining sites. She said Meals on Wheels is operating near capacity and the agency has implemented a wait list for new clients because openings occur only when there is attrition.
Dimet said AOA’s resource specialists helped 51 clients apply for the homeowner/renter credit in February, with an average savings per client of about $521. For fiscal year 2025 to date, the agency has documented $678,865 in client savings from multiple benefit programs (the tally excludes drug plan savings that the state asks be finalized at year-end; Dimet estimated an additional roughly $200,000 that will be reported later).
Dimet described capacity limits for independent living services (56 current clients) and noted the agency’s role in outreach to senior housing and partnerships with property managers to reach homebound seniors. She also described the agency’s ombudsman and resource specialist work to help seniors access services that can delay or avert facility-based care, and she invited further discussion as federal-level changes are compiled and assessed.
