The Rye Brook Board of Trustees on March 25 set a public hearing for April 8 on the villagetentative fiscal year 2025-26 budget and heard a high-level overview from village administration.
Staff described four guiding priorities for the budget: hold the tax rate as low as possible, provide quality services, reinvest in infrastructure and preserve fiscal stability. The tentative budget lists a tax levy of about $20,000,000, a 3.5% increase that the administration said is $6,133 below the statutory tax cap, and an operating budget of about $26.7 million (excluding capital). Capital support of roughly $1.6 million brings the total budget to about $28.3 million.
Administration reported assessed values rose about 3.9% overall, increasing the taxable base, and said full-time village staffing remains at 76 positions with one new part-time position in the fire department. Major capital allocations include $550,000 for road resurfacing, $425,000 for a street sweeper (largely grant-funded) and about $300,000 for sewer work. The administration also noted a strong fund balance (approximately 23.5% of expenses) and the villagecredit rating (Aa2) and a 0 score on New York Statefiscal stress monitoring.
Staff said the tentative budget was filed March 20, as required by village law, and work sessions are scheduled prior to the public hearing: March 31 (special meeting) and April 7 at 6 p.m. The board must adopt the budget by May 1 or the tentative budget becomes the budget by default.
Trustees recorded unanimous votes to set the public hearing. The board plans a more detailed budget presentation at the April 8 meeting and encouraged public attendance at the upcoming work sessions.
