The Rye Brook Board of Trustees on March 25 set a public hearing for April 8 on a proposed local law that would remove the villagecodenotarization requirement for permit and land-use application submissions and allow electronic signatures and documents through the villagecloud permitting system.
The administration described the change as a narrow amendment to chapter 9 of the village code to facilitate a cloud permitting system that allows applicants and consultants to submit and track building permits, land-use filings and supporting documents online. Staff said the system will allow in-field permit printing, permit e-mail delivery and the option to upload identity documentation (for example, a driver's license) to confirm ownership when appropriate.
Village staff emphasized that paper submissions will remain possible and that in-person assistance will be available for applicants who cannot use electronic filing. The administrator said the removal of the notarization requirement is intended to streamline submittals while preserving safeguards through the building inspector's review and existing verification practices.
Trustees voted unanimously to set the April 8 public hearing. The hearing will provide a formal opportunity for public comment on the proposed local law and the administrative procedures that will accompany online permitting.
