The Village of Rye Brook Board of Trustees on Feb. 25 approved modifications to the 2025 day‑camp and travel‑camp license and fee schedule to reflect rising transportation costs and to simplify discounts for additional children and week lengths.
A summer camp subcommittee met in November and December and provided recommendations after reviewing previous years’ costs and regional comparators. The board instructed staff to base new fees roughly on 95% of the previous year’s costs; staff provided a schedule that the board characterized as largely faithful to that direction while simplifying irregular past increases.
Trustees and staff said the largest driver of higher fees this year is bus costs for travel camps. The board and staff described adjustments including: minor increases on some travel‑camp locations (noted as roughly a $300 change for some trips based on last year’s attendance), use of the village senior bus on two pool days to reduce transportation expense, more local day trips to limit long bus runs, and a standardized 15% discount for an additional child in the same household.
Staff and trustees said they prefer to finalize fee decisions earlier in the year going forward so families can plan and the village can advertise before registrations begin. The board approved the resolution and directed staff to publish the old and new schedules online for public reference.
Trustee comments at the meeting emphasized striking a balance between affordability for residents and limiting taxpayer subsidy of camp operations.
