Rye Brook approves police data agreements, five‑year Axon taser contract and related budget transfers

The Village of Rye Brook Board of Trustees on Feb. 25 approved several items related to police technology and equipment, including intermunicipal agreements for information systems, a five‑year contract with Axon Enterprise Inc. for tasers, and related budget and capital transfers to fund the purchase and maintenance program.
The board authorized entry into an intermunicipal agreement (IMA) with Westchester County to access the county's RICK repository for criminal and arrest data. Trustees also approved an IMA with New York State and Westchester County to access the TRAC traffic and criminal records system. Chris (village administrator) told the board these systems provide information officers need when performing their duties; the board recorded no operating cost for the TRAC agreement as read at the meeting.
The board approved a proposed five‑year agreement with Axon Enterprise Inc. for replacement tasers and support services. The package described in the resolution would provide 30 Axon devices (one per officer plus two spares), warranty and training, and included annual payments cited in the resolution (the transcript reads annual payment of $29,006.39 for a five‑year total of $148,001.94). The chief described improvements in the new devices, including individually fired projectiles, greater accuracy, a green laser aiming device and rechargeable batteries. The agreement includes training and a warranty/maintenance plan that covers training cartridges and replacements.
To fund the taser program, the board approved interfund capital transfers to establish a 2024–25 general fund account for the police taser program and reallocated balances from closed capital projects; related resolution language directed transfers into the general fund to reflect the taser purchase. Trustees also declared several police electronics items surplus — six tablets and mounts and one fingerprint scanner — to be sold by auction if bids are received.
Trustees praised the police chief’s research and voted by roll call to approve the IMAs, the Axon agreement (subject to counsel modification), capital transfers and the surplus declaration. Trustee Fisher, Trustee Heizer, Trustee Merlino and Mayor Klein recorded “yes” votes on the package items.
