Rye Brook board adopts revised 2025 summer-camp rates to cover rising transportation costs

The Village of Rye Brook Board of Trustees on Feb. 25 approved a revised license and fee schedule for the 2025 village day camp and travel camp to address rising transportation and other operating costs.
The board said a summer camp subcommittee met in November and December and provided staff with recommendations; staff and trustees then refined rates to offset increased bus costs. Chris (village administrator) and staff provided the final fee proposals in the resolution; the resolution notes an online listing of the old and new schedules.
Trustee Epstein and other trustees described the chosen schedule as an imperfect compromise between keeping camp affordable for families and limiting taxpayer subsidy of the program. Trustees discussed moving the annual fee-review timing earlier in the calendar — several supported an October review in future years so fees can be set before registration opens. Trustee comments said the revised structure simplifies some discounts (including a straight 15% additional-child discount) and adds clearer pricing by week and by trip.
Susan (staff) and Rob Bertolotti (staff) were singled out by trustees for research and financial analysis that informed the recommendations. Trustees also noted cost-saving measures staff proposed, such as using the senior bus for two pool trips and increasing the number of local trips to reduce long bus rides and expenses.
The board voted by roll call to adopt the fee modifications. Trustee Fisher, Trustee Heizer, Trustee Merlino and Mayor Klein recorded “yes” votes. Trustees and staff said they will monitor registration and financial results after the summer and revisit the schedule following next season.
