Port Jervis council accepts resignations, makes appointments and notes $159,600 federal grant for railroad crossing work

At its Jan. 13 meeting the Port Jervis Common Council accepted several personnel changes, made appointments to boards and commissions, approved fire police appointments, accepted a human resources resignation, and reported receipt of federal grant funding for railroad crossing planning.
Appointments and personnel actions approved by voice vote included: John Russell to a one-year appointment to the CDA (term to expire Jan. 31, 2026); acceptance of the resignation of Dominic Santini from the zoning board; appointment of Joe Maddis to fill the remainder of Santini's zoning-board term (expiring Jan. 31, 2027); reappointment of Cory Pappolo to the recreation commission (term language in transcript contained date clarifications); appointment of Robin Hendershot as planning and zoning board secretary; appointment of David Gonzalez as a zoning-board alternate; and acceptance of the resignation of Human Resources Director Michael Washington.
The council also approved appointment of fire police members for one-year terms effective Feb. 1, 2025; the transcript lists a roster of individuals by company and role and the council approved the list by motion.
Mayor Dominic Siklis reported that the city has been awarded federal grant funding of $159,600 to assist with planning and early phases of a railroad crossing elimination project that would help provide access to Riverside Park. The council said the award will assist planning and move the project toward implementation.
Council members set the date for the annual State of the City address: Jan. 30 at 6 p.m. in the council chambers.
