Port Jervis council sets Jan. 27 public hearing on fire-inspection local law

The Port Jervis Common Council voted Jan. 13 to set a public hearing for 6:30 p.m. Jan. 27 on Local Law No. 1 of 02/2025, which the council said will "clean up some language" in the fire inspection section of the city code.
Councilman Michael Figueroa moved to set the hearing; the motion was seconded and approved unanimously, with no recorded nay votes.
Council members said the proposed local law targets cleanup of language in the fire inspection provisions (transcript references: chapter 280, sections 289 and 23116). At the code committee meeting, members also discussed proposed changes to Chapter 457 (illegal dumping) to adjust fines, revisions to Chapter 403 concerning permit fees, and the addition of 8-inch, 10-inch and possibly 12-inch adapters related to new water mains being connected to city systems. Council members said details on fee amounts and final adapter specifications would be discussed at upcoming meetings.
The council also announced the next code committee meeting for Feb. 5 in the council chambers.
The public hearing on Local Law No. 1 of 02/2025 is scheduled to be held in the council chambers on Jan. 27 at 6:30 p.m.
