Village green initiatives: board approves bioswale consultant and hears updates on tree planting, Garrison Park

Trustees approved consultant fees of $7,500 for Alexander Zirkle to redesign and plant bioswales in the village, a vote the board adopted by voice (All in favor: Aye). The consultant contract was presented as a professional redesign and planting engagement for the village's bioswales located at Spring Street and the water mill.
Committee members reported that the tree board had completed fall plantings, including work in front of Saint Peter and Paul's Church, and that the beautification committee praised what the Department of Public Works did at Garrison Park. The committees said the remaining work includes addressing an unused sprinkler system at a park site and coordinating final planting layouts; DPW will execute the plantings and committee members said they did not expect to hire an external landscape architect for the work.
Trustees also discussed a planned volunteer day ("Green of Williamsville"/park cleanup) scheduled for May 3 with litter pickup and a bioswale work session at the mill on Spring Street where Alexander Zirkle will explain bioswale function to volunteers. The board announced the village will be closed on April 21 in observance of Easter.
Why it matters: The bioswale work and tree plantings are small-scale environmental investments intended to improve stormwater management, beautify parks and encourage volunteer engagement in village open spaces. The $7,500 consultant fee was approved during the resolutions portion of the meeting.
