Rooks said jurors bring an outside perspective that can broaden exposure for local artists. "It is an honor for me to jury and to guest curate. It is a celebration of the great, depth and breadth of hip talent in the Athens area," he said, using the title Whelan Family senior curator for modern and contemporary art at the High Museum.
Organizers emphasized the range of participants. The transcript records that entrants included University of Georgia undergraduates as well as artists in their eighties. One exhibiting artist said they had "never been in a show this big" and called the experience "really, exciting" for the exposure; another speaker noted they developed film at Linden House and had two photographic works in the exhibition.
Linden House staff encouraged artists to apply again in future years, noting that a different juror each year brings a new perspective and opportunity for repeat applicants to be selected. The center framed the exhibition as part of its mission to foster dialogue between Athens artists and wider regional and national audiences.
