The Committee on Parole denied parole for Ryan Hurd after reviewing his record, institutional conduct and opposition from the Jefferson Parish district attorney’s office.
Staff told the panel Hurd had been at Raymond Laborde since February 2024, had no recent disciplinary write-ups and had completed several vocational certifications. Hurd told the panel he had sold marijuana in the past, expressed remorse and said he planned to live with his parents on release and to distance himself from prior contacts.
The Jefferson Parish ADA opposed parole, citing weapons and money recovered during one search and arguing the distribution conviction involved a sizable operation. Panel members asked Hurd about his role in distribution, weapon ownership and motivations; Hurd said he was not a user and described financial pressure from dog-breeding and job layoffs as a driver of his criminal activity.
Panel members concurred that Hurd would benefit from a long-term DOC substance-abuse program and prerelease steps but ultimately voted to deny parole, citing the seriousness of the distribution offenses and the record of repeated violations. The panel noted Hurd is nearing an earlier release date contingent on program completion and good-time accrual and urged him to complete recommended programming.
