The Committee on Parole denied Dequaylen Bruton’s parole application at a March 26 hearing, saying the facility where he is housed does not offer required prerelease and education programming and recommending he be moved to a facility that does.
Bruton, serving a 20‑year sentence for indecent behavior with a juvenile and related charges, told the board he did not know the victim’s true age at the time and expressed remorse. Board members noted the facility lacks a GED program, prerelease (100‑hour) programming and other classes the law requires for release eligibility. Members said Bruton scored as a moderate risk for reoffending and that additional treatment — including sex‑offender treatment classes — would be appropriate.
Because the requisite programs were not available at his current facility, the board voted to deny parole and recommended relocation to a facility that can provide GED and prerelease instruction so Bruton can meet statutory eligibility requirements for future consideration.
Outcome: parole denied; board recommended transfer to a facility offering required programming and treatment so the applicant may reapply after completion.
