Parole granted conditionally for Joseph Mickey; board requires GED and 100‑hour prerelease

The Committee on Parole voted to grant conditional parole to Joseph Mickey at a March 26 hearing in Marksville, contingent on completion of his GED and the 100‑hour prerelease program.

Board members who voted to grant said they were influenced by letters of support from the fire department, police and sheriff’s office and by the warden’s testimony describing Mickey’s steady program participation and work history in custody. The board placed postrelease conditions on Mickey’s parole that require anger‑management and a substance‑abuse evaluation, and the Department of Corrections must transfer him to a facility that offers the prerelease program before release.

Mickey told the panel he has been incarcerated since February 2013 and described remorse for his offense. Warden Warren Eric Silas (Avoyles Parish Sheriff's Office) and others provided written and oral support, noting work assignments and steady behavior. Mickey said he has housing and a sandblasting/painting job lined up.

Board members said the positive institutional recommendations and program participation supported release but emphasized the conditions: completion of GED and the 100‑hour prerelease before actual release and mandated anger‑management and substance‑abuse evaluation after release.
