Canton approves Community Pass to manage pool, sports and facility reservations

The Canton City Commission authorized purchase and implementation of Community Pass, a recreation-management platform the city will use for pool passes, swim-class and sports registration and facility rentals.
Recreation staff told the commission Community Pass was one of few vendors offering an integrated point-of-sale, credit-card processing and registration solution. The staff presentation listed a $1,500 setup fee, $600 for web-based training and an annual maintenance fee cited in the meeting as $6,550. Staff said the city will keep SportsEngine active for the current season and move registrations to Community Pass thereafter.
Commissioners questioned cost and year-round use; staff said the platform could be used year-round for facility rentals, program registration and other functions beyond the summer pool season. SportsEngine was described in the meeting as costing about $130 per month under the city’s existing arrangement.
After discussion about transition timing and the need to maximize the platform’s value by placing more services on it (facility rentals, sports registrations, pool passes), the commission approved the purchase by unanimous roll call.
Recreation staff said they will begin implementation and work to move annual registrations and facility rentals onto the new system for the next contract year.
