Lorain City Council unanimously approved a five-year renewal to keep roughly 38.2 acres of family-owned land in an agricultural district.
The renewal applies to a parcel at the corner of South Broadway and Cooper Foster Park Road; Thomas Estruz of Estruez Investment Company LLC asked the council to renew the property’s enrollment in the agricultural district, noting the land has been in his family for generations.
The request was presented during a public hearing required under the Ohio Revised Code. Council members spoke in support. Councilmember Nutt moved to approve the renewal and Councilmember DeMacchio seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
Estruz told council the plot has been farmland for decades and that the renewal is a routine five-year application. Several council members said neighbors on Baldwin Drive support continued agricultural use of the parcel.
Because the hearing and vote completed the renewal process, the agricultural district status will continue for the parcel for the period covered by the ordinance, subject to the city’s and state’s statutory requirements for agricultural districts.
No litigation, contested appeals, or conditions were raised during the hearing.
The council recorded the vote as unanimous; the item will be reflected in the minutes for this meeting.
