Town Manager Hervey told the council the consultant will provide cybersecurity support, assist with a planned migration away from the town’s current hosting vendor, help secure grants, and support the IT systems manager position the town is recruiting. The consultant arrangement is hourly and flexible to complement an in-house systems manager. Hervey said the vendor has a long-standing relationship with local public safety departments and school districts.
Councilors asked for a fiscal cap and reporting triggers before they would approve a contract. Councilor Burrard proposed $40,000 per fiscal year as a not-to-exceed limit; councilors also asked the town manager to return with an estimate of cost savings from migrating away from the current hosting vendor. The motion to approve the contract at $100 per hour, not to exceed $40,000 per fiscal year through fiscal 2028, passed 5-0.
The contract includes quarterly reporting and the town manager authority to return for adjustments if unforeseen cybersecurity incidents or special projects require more hours.
