Barrington council fills multiple board vacancies; library trustee picked amid five applicants

The Barrington Town Council made a series of appointments to local boards and commissions during its meeting, filling vacancies on the Library Board of Trustees, the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Committee, the Veterans Advisory Committee and the Zoning Board of Review.
Library: After hearing five applicants for a single full-member vacancy on the Library Board of Trustees (term to 12/31/2028), the council appointed Elizabeth Griffin. Candidates who spoke included Carl A. Serra, Elizabeth Griffin, Corey Pico, Rudy Seber and Margaret "Peg" Van Bridal. Councilor Jankozick moved to appoint Griffin; the motion passed 4-0 with Councilor O'Neil recusing himself.
DEI Committee: Kristen Holmes Linder, who described 30 years of program work with diverse and trauma-affected populations, was appointed as an alternate to the DEI Committee with a term ending 09/30/2026. The motion to appoint was made by Councilor Garrard and passed unanimously, 5-0.
Veterans Advisory Committee: Jesse Bruen and Janine Marie Lopez were appointed as full members with terms expiring 01/31/2026; both appointments passed 5-0 after applicants described military or veteran-family experience and volunteer work in veterans’ programs.
Zoning Board of Review: Spencer Alexander, an architect and newer Barrington resident, was appointed as a second alternate to the Zoning Board of Review with a term to 12/31/2029; the appointment was approved 5-0.
Council members thanked all applicants and urged those who were not selected to stay involved by attending commission meetings. The council noted that library board membership is limited by Rhode Island statute to between three and seven members, which influenced the number of appointments available.
