Council approves making stretch of Rose Lane one-way after fire-department review

During the public hearing, town staff described the street as too narrow for safe two-way travel, and a neighborhood resident, Sam Butterfield of Ernest Street, provided measurements and examples of delivery trucks blocking passage. The town’s fire department noted a preference for two-way access but later clarified to staff that they could respond from either direction and that the change would not impede emergency response.
Councilors heard that parts of Rose Lane were under 14 feet wide and that large delivery vehicles frequently require other drivers to pull onto private property to pass; Butterfield said the lane’s geometry and sightlines make two-way operation unsafe. After the public comment period, Councilor Burrard moved to approve Ordinance 2025-1; the motion passed 5-0.
The change will be posted and enforced through the town’s traffic signage program; town staff said signage and notification to neighbors will follow.
