A Cleveland Museum of Natural History program that offers free weekend admission to nearby residents has been expanded to include Brooklyn, the museum told Brooklyn City Council at its March 24 meeting.
"For the last 5 years, we've been under a major transformation," Laina Racklin, the museum's community engagement specialist, told council. Racklin said a grant — renewed this December by the Mandel Foundation — allowed the museum to expand free admission on Saturdays and Sundays to five additional cities, including Brooklyn. "So every Saturday and Sunday the residents of Brooklyn can visit the Cleveland Museum of Natural History completely free," Racklin said.
Racklin told council the free admission covers an entire party and includes access to the museum's renovated galleries, its wildlife center and programming offered on those days. She recommended that residents obtain tickets online in advance to expedite entry but said staff can also issue free tickets at the admissions desk; an ID is preferred but a piece of mail with name and address or similar proof will be accepted.
Council members thanked the museum representative and were referred to city staff (Mary Jo) for follow‑up connections. Racklin said museum staff, including a colleague identified as Mark Anthony, attended to support the outreach effort and invited residents to contact the museum with questions.
The museum presentation came during the council's reports segment; no council action was required or taken.
